Philadelphia earned a reputation in the 1700’s as the capital city of craft, and the city’s maker movement is still alive and well today. On Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 5 – 8 p.m., the Museum of the American Revolution’s Ceramics in the City-themed History After Hours event will celebrate the craftspeople, artisans, and artificers who made the Revolution possible and those who continue to make Philadelphia a hub for the handmade.

Historian Colin G. Calloway to Discuss 2018 National Book Award Finalist “The Indian World of George Washington,” Nov. 29
Author and historian Colin G. Calloway will discuss his new book The Indian World of George Washington: The First President, the First Americans, and the Birth of the Nation (2018), which was recently announced as a finalist for the 2018 National Book Awards, at the Museum of the American Revolution on Thursday, November 29, 2018, at 6 p.m. The event is part of the Museum’s popular Read the Revolution Speaker Series.

Even before the smash hit Broadway musical comes to town next year, Hamil-fans can get their fix with two exhibits that perfectly complement each other and are accessible with one discounted ticket. The joint ticket includes admission to the Museum of the American Revolution and its new, hands-on experience Hamilton Was Here: Rising Up in Revolutionary Philadelphia, which opens Oct. 27, as well as to the National Constitution Center and its recently extended Hamilton: The Constitutional Clashes That Shaped a Nation exhibit.

The Museum of the American Revolution today announced that acclaimed documentary filmmaker Ken Burns will receive the Gerry Lenfest Spirit of the American Revolution Award in April 2019. Through more than four decades of masterful storytelling, Burns has illuminated the people, places, and events that shaped our nation’s history and the bold American spirit at its core.
Museum of the American Revolution Appoints Dr. R. Scott Stephenson President and CEO
The Museum of the American Revolution today announced the appointment of Dr. R. Scott Stephenson, currently Vice President of Collections, Exhibitions, and Programming for the Museum, as President and CEO, effective Nov. 1, 2018. Since 2007, Stephenson has led the development of the Museum’s award-winning exhibitions, multimedia experiences, and educational programming, as well as overseeing the care and expansion of its rich collection of art and artifacts.
Meet the Props Designer Behind Broadway’s Hamilton Musical at Halloween-Themed History After Hours Event, Oct. 23
Called “a props shaman” by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the New York-based artist and self-proclaimed “proptologist” Jay Duckworth will speak at the Museum of the American Revolution as part of a Halloween-themed History After Hours event on Tuesday, Oct. 23 from 5 – 8 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to come in costume.
