John Adams hoped for the fireworks, as well as "general knowledge" of what they celebrate.

On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress voted to adopt the Declaration of Independence. Many people learned of the historic vote by reading their newspaper, the Pennsylvania Evening Post. A copy of this newspaper survived the centuries and is now a part of The American Revolution Center’s (ARC) collection.

As we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, this image of soldiers from two of America's greatest generations reminds us that, indeed, Americans will always fight for liberty.

The American Revolution Center (ARC) named three new members to its Board of Directors: John B. Adams Jr., Stephen H. Case, and Ambassador Louise V. Oliver. “These new Board members will further our mission to engage a broad public in the understanding of the American Revolution and its ongoing legacy,” said H.F. “Gerry” Lenfest, Chairman of the Board of Directors of The American Revolution Center.
