This album contains photographs of an exhibition titled “Peace, Liberty, and Independence”: 225 Years after the Treaty of Paris, organized by the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in conjunction with The American Revolution Center to commemorate the 225th anniversary of the Treaty of Paris. The exhibition was mounted at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in fall 2008. Works of art in the exhibition included two iconic full-length portraits of President George Washington by Gilbert Stuart and two period watercolors from ARC’s collection depicting the Battles of Paoli and Germantown by the Italian artist Xavier della Gatta. The exhibition also included the iconic American painting, The Prayer at Valley Forge by Arnold Friberg and a group of rare arms and equipment carried by American, British, and French participants in the military conflict, as well as historic manuscripts and maps.
