Veterans Day Weekend
Join us to celebrate the Marine Corps birthday on November 10th and commemorate Veterans Day on November 11th with special programs, walking tours, and activities related to early American soldiers and their military families.
Start the celebration on Friday, November 9th at 12 pm with a talk by Russell Shorto, New York Times-bestselling author, about his book Revolution Song that presents the diverse experiences of six individuals who served the Revolutionary cause. Every day at 3 pm, meet Joseph Plumb Martin, as he prepares to leave the army in 1781, recalls his seven years of service and looks to life after the war.
On Sunday, November 11th, join the curatorial and education teams in a group effort to unpack and care for the Museum’s hand-stitched replica of Washington’s headquarters tent. Hear about the Commander in Chief’s Guard and other Revolutionaries, like Alexander Hamilton, who met inside it.
Throughout the weekend, explore the stories behind the rare photographs of those who lived through the Revolutionary War, try on a replica 18th-century soldier’s pack at a Discovery Cart, and write a note thanking soldiers of today for their service.
Free Admission for Veterans, Active and Retired Military, and Blue Star Families courtesy of Comcast NBCUniversal.
