The Museum’s grand opening festivities will begin on Wednesday, April 19, the 242nd anniversary of the ‘shot heard round the world’ that ignited the Revolutionary War. The day will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the American Revolution in Washington Square. The U.S. Army Old guard will lay a wreath on the tomb, the Oneida Indian Nation will offer a blessing, and a prayer offered from representatives of regional congregations.
The program will continue at 9:30 a.m., with pageantry and patriotic fanfare at Independence Hall, including performances by the U.S. Army Old Guard color guards and fife and drum corps. Performers will then march down Chestnut Street to the new Museum.
At 10:30 a.m., an official dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony in the Museum’s outdoor plaza will open the Museum to the public. Tickets are required for the ceremony as space is extremely limited. Details of the opening program as well as information on how to purchase tickets will be announced in March.
Following the opening ceremony, the Museum will offer four days of festivities (April 20-23). Visitors will be treated to special programming including music, costumed interpreters, and family-friendly activities each day. Museum tickets will be available for purchase on February 22nd at noon.
